So, I've been fiddling around with Ubuntu for the past couple of years, and one of the things I've discovered, in addition to lots and lots a really cool free software, is that iD Software, the makers of Wolfenstein, Doom, Hexen, Heretic, and Quake, have released the quake3 engine that was used in Quake III Arena as open source. This means that any programmer can take the engine and build a multiplayer, first person shooter of their own. And in the Linux world, there are dozens of them.

First, there's OpenArena, which is a direct clone of Quake Arena. [link]

Then, you have nexuiz, [link] another modified Quake clone.

Then there are the interesting variations.

AlienArena [link] All the players are, well, aliens.

Urban Terror [link] is more of a military style Arena game. Standard military gear and recognizable city settings.

Warsow [link] is more of a futuristic cyberpunk world where player are mutant pigs, cyberpunk thugs or androids. Warsow also includes some unique special moves such as walljump, dodge, and ramp slide. This one is actually built on the Quake II engine.

Smokin' Guns [link] is an interesting twist. This Arena game was done up in an Old West style with authentic nineteenth century weaponry and even some recognizable characters for AI players. From the fictional like Clint Eastwood, To the historical like Calamity Jane and Annie Oakley.

Tremulous [link] give you the opportunity to decide which team you want to be on: the humans or the aliens. Also there are some real time strategy elements involved which can alter the pacing a bit. It's not just kill everything that moves like most Arena games.

World of Padman [link] is perhaps the most inventive, and most bizarre, of all the Arena games. You play as one of the cast of pad-characters (Padman, Padgirl, PadLily, FatPad, PadPirate...you get the pattern) who are in reality about three inches tall. The maps are rooms like the kitchen, the library, the garden, even the hull of a pirate ship. It's interesting hiding from your opponent behind a giant box of cereal. This game is also more kid friendly. It's bloodless and characters are just knocked out instead of outright killed.

The best part of these open source Quake Arena clones and mods is that they are all 100% free. Free to download, free to connect to public servers, free to play as much as you like. I hope you find something that you enjoy.

Hi, there!

My name is Trisha, although my friends generally know me by another name. I thought I'd put up this little gallery of pictures of me just to see what people think. As you look through the gallery, keep a couple of things in mind:

[1.] I am a fictional character. I don't really exist in the world as you know it. So, please, no requests for nights on the town, or one night stands (Eww!), or on the spot marriage proposals, unless you really like your women to be two-dimensional. In any case, I'm spoken for. ;)

[2.] I am not the artist. I am the muse, model and star all rolled into one. If you want to see the artist's other works, check out :iconncweber:'s page.

[3.] The majority of the work here is labeled as mature. This doesn't mean that there's any porn going on here. Trisha don't play that! Besides, to my mind, there is a difference between mature and adult. Adult is any material marketed towards those 18 years of age or older (21 or older in some places). Mature has to do with your emotional development. You could be 45 years old and not be mature. So, my recommendation is, if you get off drooling over pictures of nude women, then go buy a subscription to Playboy. However, if you are a person who appreciates the beauty of the human female form in all its grandeur, then by all means, enjoy the gallery. :D
